Everything you need to enroll for the 2026 – 2027 school year
Every year families in Tecate ask the same questions: when to enroll, which grade my child belongs in and what paperwork to bring. Here are the answers for public and private schools, with what differs between them.
General calendar
January – February
Pre-registration at public basic education schools, on the dates the education authority publishes.
February – June
Private schools open enrollment and visits; places fill in order.
July
Supply lists, uniforms and the school calendar are handed out.
August
The school year begins.
Age by grade

Documents almost always required
- Birth certificate (original and copy).
- The student's CURP.
- Vaccination record (preschool).
- Report card or certificate from the previous grade.
- Passport-size photographs.
- ID of the mother, father or legal guardian.
- Proof of address.
Changing schools mid-year
It's possible. Ask the previous school for the report card with partial grades or a proof of studies, and confirm that the new school is accredited so the student's record transfers without trouble.

What if my child's birthday falls after December 31?
They enter the grade that matches their age on that date; usually one grade below.
Can I enroll without a CURP?
The CURP is required for official registration. It's issued free online with the birth certificate.
