Critical thinking, English and technology on a solid foundation of values

In elementary school students consolidate what they started in preschool: they read, write and reason more independently, work in teams and take on responsibility. We support that with Mexico's national curriculum, English, technology and the ethical reflection of Philosophy for Children.

An elementary school that continues, not one that starts over

Many of our elementary students come from our own preschool. They know the school, the teachers and the way we work, and it shows in first grade: moving up a level isn't moving to a new world.

For students arriving from another school, the first weeks are spent calmly checking where they stand in reading, writing and math, and talking with the family about what we see.

Values you practice

Teaching respect and personal integrity, educating in freedom with responsibility and encouraging dialogue, participation and service aren't lines in a handbook: they're how a conflict gets solved at recess or how a work team gets organized.

Real technology and robotics

In elementary school robotics moves from blocks to challenges: students design, build and program robots to solve problems. The sixth-grade team took part in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge, «Submerged» season, with a project on marine recycling, and was the only school in Tecate to compete.

That experience — weeks on a robot, failing, fixing and presenting it to judges — builds science, technology, engineering and math, but above all teamwork.

Heading to middle school

Fifth and sixth grade build the independence middle school asks for: organizing homework, researching, presenting to the class and defending an idea with arguments. Philosophy for Children helps a great deal with that last one.

Questions about elementary

Is the elementary school SEP-accredited?

Yes. Colegio Encinos is accredited by Mexico's Ministry of Education with RVOE SEBA15010, and studies carry official validity.

Do you take students from other schools?

Yes, in any grade as long as there's space. We ask for the previous year's report card and hold an interview with the family.

What after-school programs are there?

Chess, art, basketball and robotics. The offering and schedule are confirmed at the start of each school year.

Do you assign a lot of homework?

Enough to reinforce what was covered in class and build a study habit. There's a guide on the blog for supporting it at home.
